I had another post scheduled for this week, but I think those thoughts can wait.
My heart has been burdened once again for the Church around the world specifically imprisoned Pastor Saeed Abedini.
My hope is that you have already been praying for this family…our family. If you don’t know the story, read a summary here first.
It is so easy to distance ourselves from stories like this. To unknowingly treat it like another story we would see on a TV series or novel. Our forgetful nature causes us to throw up quick prayers for the persecuted then move on to the other pressing duties of our day. I’m grateful for the Spirit who is at work to fulfill the purposes of our sovereign Father in spite of my faltering prayer life.
Saeed Abedini is a 35 year old pastor.
My husband is a 35 year old pastor.
Naghmeh Abedini is a mother to two young children.
My daily responsibility is to mother three young children.
The Abedini family is loved by an all-knowing, all-powerful and GOOD God.
My family is under the loving care of that same God.
I try to imagine the heartbreak, fear, and despair this family must face every minute of every day. The emotional rollercoaster of the last three years is inconceivable for me. I daydream about being a powerful influencer who could make a simple phone call to release Saeed from his imprisonment effective immediately.
Then I remember another brother, Peter, who was imprisoned with a similar fate. His friend and fellow apostle, James had recently been murdered by a God-hating leader. There seemed to be no hope…..
It’s in the darkest of moments, though, that the One who IS HOPE is most glorified. Peter was miraculously freed from his prison to the surprise of his local church. Read more about this story here.
I don’t know how our Father will choose to work in this Iranian prison. I don’t know how He might work in the hearts of those who hear this family’s story. But I know He WILL work. I know He IS working. He must! He promises throughout Scripture to defend the glory of His own name. This situation is not left to chance.
My job is to bring this family before THE powerful influencer who pursues the hearts of the pious and murderers alike.
Here are a few things I’ve been praying for:
- Spiritual nourishment- I can’t claim this as a fact, but I’m sure Bible’s aren’t allowed in this Iranian prison which means Saeed has gone 3+ years without the nourishment of Scripture.
- Emotional strength – All four of the Abedini family members must be drained. Years of hope then disappointment give opportunities for seeds of doubt about God’s goodness to sprout in their hearts.
- Physical endurance – Saeed has undergone severe medical issues from beatings, etc… Nagmeh and the children must be physically weary from travelling to share this ongoing story.
My plea to you as a reader is that you won’t just click away to read other more light hearted articles. Please don’t think that this story has no affect on you. I urge you to take action for YOUR brother, Saeed. Pray as a family for God’s glory to be known worldwide because of this story.
